These Loft Young Writers' After School Online program connects young writers and readers across the U.S. and beyond. They offer a supportive community focused on book discussions, building community, and thinking deeply.

Classics are more than just old stories—they're windows into different times, places, and perspectives. But let's be honest: sometimes they can feel outdated or hard to connect with. By looking at these works through a modern lens, they can come alive, sparking conversations between us and writers from the past and present who grapple with the same big questions about society.

One of the coolest ways to reimagine classic literature is through graphic novel adaptations. In this class, we'll dive into one of the most important classics of all time: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Published in 1953, this book tells the story of a fireman whose job isn’t to put out fires but to start them—by burning books. As he starts questioning his work, the novel explores themes of censorship, knowledge, and freedom that are just as relevant today as they were 70 years ago.

Over four weeks, we’ll read the graphic novel adaptation by Tim Hamilton, discuss the story, and explore how it connects to issues in the world today. By the end of the course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the novel’s themes and an introduction to literary criticism.
