If you’re anything like me, when you finish a great book you want to talk to someone about it. At the Loft, we wanted to celebrate that in a big way. So we put together Wordplay, a party-cum-book festival, and invited 100+ authors to talk about their work. We wanted to make sure our hometown heroes are here, so we invited Marlon James and Lorna Landvik. But, we also wanted to make sure you get some folks from further flung places so we invited authors from Maine (Stephen King!) and California (Amy Tan!), Canada (Sheila Heti!) and Japan (Pico Iyer!).
We made sure there were household names you already know and love, like Jamaica Kincaid and Jared Diamond. But we also wanted to introduce you to some emerging writers like Fernando Flores and Angie Kim. There are star poets like Natasha Tretheway, and Young Adult author-celebrities like Sandyha Menon, and everything between. And, as sustaining as books are, we’ll have food and drinks too.
So join us in downtown Minneapolis May 11-12. We’re building this from the ground up and we need you there, so save the date for the biggest book celebration in Minnesota and help us make the inaugural Wordplay one to remember.
